Style Guide
How to Style
This wiki uses a small set of tags to format text. It’s called PMCode. You can read about it here. Understanding this will make the following much easier.
The following are a few of the styles you will see in this wiki:
Scripture
Scripture is text from a Religious Source. It should be preceded by its chapter/verse number in bold.
1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Scripture may be marked with a color to show how it is being annotated. The hightlight key to the left shows you the available annotations. Often the scripture is already marked, however you can use the following code to annotate scripture.
this is how to mark [style=plagiarism]plagiarized scripture[/style].
If there are several different annotations (e.g. both absurd and cruel) you should use your best judgement as to which is most relevant.
Scripture should never be linked.
Annotations
Annotations are any text or content on a scripture page that is not part of the original religious text. They should all have the blue annotation background. Often they will have an icon and some text.
NEW: Annotations are created using a custom tag:
![]()
![]()
“Wives, be in subjection to your own husbands.”
Should women have the same rights as men?
What the Bible says about women’s rights.
[annotation=absurdity|cruelty]This code creates an annotation highlighting
absurdity and cruelty in a scriptural passage.[/annotation]
Links should be on their own line, unless part of a sentence or other statement.
Footnotes or Bibliography
Everything on a Scripture page that is not part of the original text should have an annotation tag around it:
Bart D. Ehrman, The New Testament: A Historical Introduction to the Early Christian Writings, 3rd ed. (2004), chap.23
These should be placed with the Annotation to which they contribute, if that is not clear, place them at the bottom of the page. Also make sure you copy any external links or other relevant data and include it.
Extra-biblical Content or Annotation Links
These are pages that discuss or compare information, that are located outside the scripture pages. You can read About the Annotation links. There is a great deal of latitude given for the styling of these pages, as the SAB source often used html structures, like tables, that would be difficult to maintain in our wiki. Contributors should use their discretion. Keep in mind that readability and usability are our most important goals. A good example of an Annotation Link page is The Bible:The two creations
NEW: You can link to specific verses in a scriptural source, like this: Acts 2:12. Here’s how to do that:
[[The_Bible:Acts_2#12 | Acts 2:12]]
Here are some general guidelines for styling these pages:
Quotes
Quotes from the Scripture or other sources should be surrounded with the Quote code, including the attribution. Attribution should follow the quote on a new line and be linked if the link is available. e.g.
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let us make man in our image…. So God created man in his own image.
Genesis 1:25-27
Annotation Link Pages
Annotation link pages should be categorized both as annotations and as to what type of annotation they refer to. Do not categorize scripture pages in this way. You can insert this code at the top of the page, then delete categories you don’t need, this creates the lists you can see if you click on the highlight key. The page will appear in every category you leave in this list:
[style=hidden]
[[Category:Annotations::Absurdity]]
[[Category:Annotations::Injustice]]
[[Category:Annotations::Cruelty]]
[[Category:Annotations::Intolerance]]
[[Category:Annotations::Prophecy]]
[[Category:Annotations::Interpretation]]
[[Category:Annotations::Science]]
[[Category:Annotations::Family]]
[[Category:Annotations::Women]]
[[Category:Annotations::Good]]
[[Category:Annotations::Contradiction]]
[[Category:Annotations::Sex]]
[[Category:Annotations::Language]]
[[Category:Annotations::Homosexuality]]
[[Category:Annotations::Plagiarism]]
[/style]
Please include the icons for each category that the annotation link is a part of at the top of the page. Do not place icons at the top of scripture pages in this way. Again you can insert this code and remove the images you don’t need

[img]/themes/wiki_themes/tsp/images/icons/interpretation.gif[/img]
[img]/themes/wiki_themes/tsp/images/icons/science.gif[/img]
[img]/themes/wiki_themes/tsp/images/icons/family.gif[/img]
[img]/themes/wiki_themes/tsp/images/icons/women.gif[/img]
[img]/themes/wiki_themes/tsp/images/icons/good.gif[/img]
[img]/themes/wiki_themes/tsp/images/icons/contradiction.gif[/img]
[img]/themes/wiki_themes/tsp/images/icons/sex.gif[/img]
[img]/themes/wiki_themes/tsp/images/icons/language.gif[/img]
[img]/themes/wiki_themes/tsp/images/icons/homosexuality.gif[/img]
[img]/themes/wiki_themes/tsp/images/icons/plagiarism.gif[/img]
Links that are listed on the SAB source should be converted, they should be placed at the bottom the page.
Available Text Styles
For the below, refer to “Apply CSS Classes” in the PMCode guide for more info.
Double Spacing
Use the “doublespace” style to doublespace an entire section of text:
[style=doublespace]Your paragraph of text...[/style]
Extra Newlines
Use the “doublespace” style on a line by itself to add extra space after a paragraph:
[style=doublespace] [/style]
Indenting
Use the “indent” style to indent an entire section of text:
[style=indent]Your paragraph of text...[/style]
Annotations
Use the “annotation” style to create a new annotation in a scripture page:
[style=annotation]Text of the annotation...[/style]
Highlighting
Use an annotation style to highlight sections of scripture that exemplify a particular type of commentary:
[style=absurdity]Scripture...[/style]
[style=injustice]Scripture...[/style]
[style=cruelty]Scripture...[/style]
[style=intolerance]Scripture...[/style]
[style=prophecy]Scripture...[/style]
[style=interpretation]Scripture...[/style]
[style=science]Scripture...[/style]
[style=family]Scripture...[/style]
[style=women]Scripture...[/style]
[style=good]Scripture...[/style]
[style=contradiction]Scripture...[/style]
[style=sex]Scripture...[/style]
[style=language]Scripture...[/style]
[style=homosexuality]Scripture...[/style]
[style=plagiarism]Scripture...[/style]
Quoting
Use the “quote” tags to quote a section of text:
[quote]Your quoted text...[/quote]
Images
You may find images in The Scripture Project, or on the pages of the SAB source. At this time we are not converting image annotations into The Scripture Project. If you find one in the wiki pages, you may delete it.
Categories
Adding a category tag to a page, as in…
[[Category:Annotations::Injustice]]
...will put that page in a category. As discussed above, all pages devoted entirely to annotation should be in the appropriate annotation category. Scriptural content itself should not be categorized as any type of annotation—it’s scripture. It should be categorized according to the section of scripture (“New Testament,” for example) that it belongs in.
