Westboro Baptist Church releases ‘God hates the world’
July 22, 2:58 PM · Tim Barello - Manhattan Headlines Examiner
(National Post)

The Westboro Baptist Church, famous for its open condemnation of Christians, Jews, and Muslims – as well as just about everyone else under the sun – is up to its old tricks, once again. In their latest act of absurdity, members of this de facto cult have posted an interpolation of the 1985 hit “We are the World”, entitled “God Hates the World” on YouTube.

Based in Topeka, Kansas, this self-identified religious organization – a classification that virtually anyone else would sharply, and rightfully, refute – is headed by Fred Phelps, a man who is, ironically, a disbarred civil rights attorney.

[TRP: The video on the original page has been removed by YouTube, but it must have been copied elsewhere.  Please watch it.  Fundamentalism is, after all, about egotism, and this is an extravagant display.  Most entertaining is that that the choir members have no sense of self-parody, which makes it quite funny.  It is also deeply disturbing, and for the same reason.]

I live and Topeka and they are considered nutbags even in town. The local media has long ago quit running stories about them so as not to encourage them. Fred Phelps is an attention whore and if people could ignore him, he would probably go away. KU in Lawrence, has a Phuck Phred Phelps organization that used to picket his pickets, but I haven’t seen them for a while so maybe they have started to ignore him as well.

I have no words for this. It’s incredibly sad and incredibly disturbing at the same time.

This piece of whatever-it’s-supposed-to-be is an insult for each and every one of those who sang We Are the World, and for each and every one of the volunteers for the US for Africa project, and for each and every one of the recipients of that—-and any other for that matter—-humanitarian aid program.

Good post!  A lot of people I’ve spoken with have still never heard of this church and it’s activities.
Besides the obvious negativity that this group spreads, the saddest thing is the kids that are involved in this church.  They may never get to actually choose their own spiritual path.  They’ve been totally brainwashed by this twisted 2 dimensional version of Christianity.

I wrote something up about the church as well and threw up a couple videos of them and a picture of a toddler holding a sign that says “you will eat you babies”
Ridiculous…....
