The Media And Obama Handle Christianity Poorly – According To One Atheist

by Steve Krakauer
Posted: May 4, 2010.

Print: Media-ite

excerpt of interview:

> Mediaite: But to play Devil’s Advocate a little here, why would you
> want the media to talk more about God, if you don’t believe that
> concept exists?
> > Cupp: Well yeah, it’s not that I want them to talk about God more
> arbitrarily. I want them, when they do talk about God, to be a little
> more respectful of the fact that 90% of this country believes in God
> and 80% is Christian. To slap 80% of the country in the face on a
> regular basis and basically telegraph that their values don’t matter
> or their values are dangerous I think isn’t honest journalism. That’s
> not honest reportage. I think this country deserves a better more
> responsible press.

I saw this live and couldn’t believe the amount of times I yelled “PLANT!” in my own head. This was an obvious ploy, there is no chance this girl is a true atheist and given the channel’s non-stop assailing of atheism, it’s odd how she essentially says Hannity’s message only with “oh yeah, I’m an atheist” at the end. Signs she ISN’T an atheist and IS a plant: 1) an atheist on FNC calling christianity a victim is like a black man in 1960 saying on national tv, “the black mistreatment of the KKK is a slap to the face of 80% of the south, we need to recognize their majority”. You’d never hear a black say that then and you’d never hear an actual atheist say what she’s pushing today….sell that book sweetie but get YOUR reportage right.

I would love for her to explain how any of the media, “liberal,” “conservative,” or whatever, tells Christians their values don’t matter and/or are dangerous. Sure, 80% of this country is Christian…and so is the media! Atheists, secularists, separationists, humanists, intellectuals, and the lot of us are like needles in a religious haystack, the media is part of the majority just like everything else is. This person is either a plant and not an atheist at all, or she’s just a terrible atheist that Fox picked up because of what she thinks about God in the media. If she is an atheist at all, she is one with some very strange views (which would be why Fox even gave an atheist a platform to speak anyway). That would be confusing, because Fox is on a neverending crusade against atheists (and numerous other groups), so why they would want to represent atheists with this woman is confusing.

You’re say that a person can’t be an atheist because they don’t see things the way you do. I they were an atheist she couldn’t or wouldn’t say a particular thing. You sound as closeminded as the christians you so quickly label as ignorant and intolerant. You come across as if ahteism is just another belief system rather than just the simple absence of belief. Apparently, dogma knows no bounds.

It looks to me like she hasn’t given the subject much thought, if any at all. Just look how easily she gave in to Hannity when he said she should call herself an agnostic. Any atheist who has given the subject any thought would not let Hannity’s “An atheist holds out no possibility that there’s a God” pass without comment.

She may be sincere though. It could be that her political convictions are much, much more important to her than any religious or philosophical issue, and she simply thinks she’s found an effective stick to hit the dog with.

Anyway, the transcript of the interview is hilarious. Two people and about 1 brain cell between them. Recommended reading.

She isn’t the most annoying person on Fox News.  That goes to “father” Jonathan Morris, their resident PRIEST.

He’s much more irritating than Cupp.  He’s a moderate apologist, and I can’t think of a bigger insult than that description.

Upon reflection, I guess maybe Cupp is just as annoying as Morris.

The only thing I see she is doing is conceding that 80% of our country believes in fairytales.  And honestly, that’s nothing to be proud of.  There is nothing wrong with “slapping” that 80% in the face for believing in fairytales.

i agree with some of the above that this so-called atheist seems to be a fake. Leave it to Fox news to find an atheist who sympathizes with the Christian majority.

Wow. since an atheist defended christianity this time, perhaps it is true, But I guess we need some more substantiation here. Its not like we just need to vent of our feelings that we do such things
