Russian Orthodox Church will join with Vatican in bid to crush secularism

Posted: December 19, 2009.

Print: National Secular Society

excerpt:

“For religion, militant secularism is just as dangerous as militant atheism was,” Hilarion said, adding ridiculously that in modern Europe the “unwritten rules of political correctness” are increasingly applied to religious institutions, to the point that believers can no longer express their religious convictions publicly because it would be considered a violation of the rights of non-believers.

Hilarion said Europe’s political unification had brought with it the risk of a new pan-European “dictatorship” that would impose a single model of secular humanistic values on all European countries.

Each church excommunicated the other centuries ago.  Presumably they would have to repair that little glitch first.  Suppose they do.  Then two bastions of medieval and pre-medieval thought will join forces against reason, scientific evidence, and the liberty of conscience generated and protected by secular Enlightenment values.  It’s a tempest in a tea pot (or perhaps an incense burner).

Another attempt by two anachronistic groups to control and deny the rights of secularists, atheists, as well as its Christian members.  “Divine Law” is only in the mind of Christian leaders, not their followers!

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend”.  Wipe out the godlessness first, then we’ll get back to hating each other.

Stand between religion, secularism, atheism, Darwinism, all the ism’s, and accept no beliefs. Beliefs most often lead to the paradigm effect and that paradigm effect can often lead to paradigm paralysis and then our beliefs hold firm in spite of the evidence.

Theories and opinions are then taught as facts. History is full of examples of massive suffering once social Darwinism is practiced and religion has control of the government.

They are two sides of the same coin called self confirmatory ideation.

The real culprit for most of our suffering is ignorance not people. And there is enough ignorance to go around for everyone. We know so little, but want others to think we know so much. This is intellectualism and all sides practice it. None of us are immune to this intellectualism based in ignorance.

The religious would rather be called sinful even evil than ignorance. The atheist whose treasure is their intellect continually writes and talks of his or her superior reasoning and intellectual abilities.

The closer we get to truth or truths we begin to say as Socrates stated I know not and can teach nothing. If you think consciousness is the hard problem take some time and think deeply on the awareness of being aware.

The challenge; become an observer. Only then will you begin to see that atheism and religion are two sides of the same coin.

“Divine Law” is only in the mind of Christian leaders, not their followers!”

I see little evidence of this statement. My observation has been that Christian leaders know and practice what they have been taught as divine law less then their followers. I trust religious leaders about as much as I trust politicians.

Often both religious leaders and politicians motives are more about what we term egotistical intentions than service to others.

“He said that when it conflicts with “divine law”, civil law “ceases to be law and becomes illegal” and Christians must be exempt from obeying it”

That’s hilarion.

“In the essay, Hilarion ... urged Christians to confront their governments on issues like abortion, euthanasia and same-sex marriage – even to the point of civil disobedience.”

“It’s crucial, he said, that churches have the right not only to hold these beliefs but also to profess them in society and impose them on others through law ‘without being accused of intolerance’.”

————————————————————-

“Impose them on others”!  This is the problem.  Religion thinks they have the right to impose rules on others.  Here’s an idea for xians.  Don’t personally get an abortion, get euthanized or marry someone of the same sex.  Every attempt to get involved in whether or not someone else does any of these things is none of your business.  Be content to pray to your pretend god and believe he will give you an awesome afterlife for your obedience, which he will give you regardless of what the secular people do.  So don’t bother the rest of us.
