Republicans Against Science
Jon Huntsman Jr., a former Utah governor and ambassador to China, isn’t a serious contender for the Republican presidential nomination. And that’s too bad, because Mr. Hunstman has been willing to say the unsayable about the G.O.P. — namely, that it is becoming the “anti-science party.” This is an enormously important development. And it should terrify us.

Well this is exactly the problem isn’t it. I have written it elsewhere in response to the kinds of things that Perry and Bachmann have espoused about taxing the poor, but it’s evermore the case when it comes to anti-intellectual science denying. Choosing to be ignorant—deliberately inaccessable by facts—is not a valid life choice. Climate existence of climate change and global warming is simply not a matter determined by politics, even if it has been caused in part by political choices. We cannot afford to turn our government and future over to somebody this willfully blind.
