Newt Gingrich described himself as a visionary when he unveiled plans Wednesday to create a mammoth new space program, including a permanent colony on the moon within the next nine years.

I suspect that Newt is primarily driven by two motives in this. One, his desire to become president, would cause him to say anything, no matter how silly, that would play well with his target audience, and, two, he thinks that the ability launch nuclear weapons with impunity from the safety of the surface of the moon would somehow be a good thing. ‘Colony’ is probably a euphemism for military base.

With that being said, I would certainly be in favor of a revitalized space program having the more sensible objective of investigating avenues that show promise of actually learning something, like what is actually going on beneath the ice of Europa. If those red stains are some sort of microbial life, maybe something else has evolved with them as a food source. Maybe tiny little fish-like creatures or tube worms or something. That would be interesting to investigate.

I’m in favour of the colony on the moon as long Newt is the one who mans it.

With so many brilliant minds in the US, why is it that only the lunatics aspire to become president?

4. Jim Harris

This coming from the man, who, when he became Speaker of the House, killed the U. S. Super Collider program, a truly legitimate scientific project.  Now the Europeans can claim supremacy in that field.

The greatest quandary is Mitt Romney. I have a home-grown theory that says a person can be too perfect , and it’s , however strange a phenomenon , something people love to hate.

He is walking straight into a lion’s den if he should get the nomination. That’s because everyone wants to take him apart to prove he’s not so good after all . And it’s become a society that hates the rich . I would like to see him pack up and go home-not because I don’t like him, but because I don’t want to see him hurt any more.  Think about it-the very good are just as hated as the bad.  It is human nature to be jealous,—the most underestimated emotion .

Newt is a lunatic.  Nobody would be more disappointed by his nomination than he would.  By the way, I’m pretty sure his wife is the speedy yellow bird in Angry Birds.  I have not yet seen her shot out of a slingshot, but the resemblance is uncanny.
