absolutely horrific science reporting—evolution has been confirmed since before Darwin. Ida is an important fossil, but the hype and misinformation does science no favor.

I agree with ennui. They first report the story in a way that confirms the fallacy of the missing link (aka creationist’s “favorite lie”) then they submit a fossil as the solution to this supposed problem with evolution. The fossil was investigated in secret and announced to the media prior to peer review. This is exactly how science DOESN’T work.

The kicker is that if peer review beings to light any problems with this fossil, then creationists can announce that “the missing link was NOT found and evolution is still unproven!!” backed by all the reckless press that managed to assert that such a problem existed.

This fossil looks like a great find and a super addition to the overwhelming library of evidence that supports evolution as a reality of the world we live in. But the horrid way this whole find was handled by the press and the researches has dealt a great disservice to the scientific community.

Or…we could read this: http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17173-why-ida-fossil-is-not-the-missing-link.html

Facts are always nice.

I’m not sure of the point of your link. Are you rebutting the video or the preceding comment?
Regardless, I’m going to wait for a consensus, rather than automatically follow the opinion of a single curator. It would also be nice if said curator gave examples of why Ida does not fall on the anthropoid side of the fence. Rather than just saying so. You know. Like facts.
