Madonna turns scribe to extol the virtues of Kabbalah
Madonna has used a newspaper column to reveal that she was inspired to adopt African children by her conversion to the Kabbalah sect of Judasim. The U.S. pop star said learned of the plight of AIDS orphans in the southern African nation when she and a teacher at the Kabbalah Centre were seeking a project to help disadvantaged children.

For what little it may be worth to regulars at this site, what Madonna follows is not at all classical Kabbalah, but a slickly repackaged modern New Agey version put out by the international Kabbalah Center. It mostly consists of elements of 19th-century New Thought from which sprung Christian Science and Unity, all sprinkled with a few casual references to Kabbalistic symbols and motifs. It has as little to do with Kabbalah as Deepak Chopra has to do with quantum physics. For the strict philosophical naturalist, Madonna has been doubly deceived.
