The difficulty in attracting young recruits is a problem that is afflicting vast swathes of the Catholic Church, particularly in secular, developed nations. But Ireland’s recruitment problems will cause concern in Rome because it had always been regarded by the Vatican as a bastion of Catholic mission in the heart of secular Europe.

If there is a Catholic god who is omniscient and all powerful, why would he/she need “Fr Patrick Rushe, National Coordinator of Diocesan Vocations Directors in Ireland” to hire priests for him?  And it never ceases to astonish and disgust me when the raping of children is referred to as: “The recent difficulties with Church scandals.”  While this article sounds hopeful, I think that extrapolating numbers of priests and believers out to 2028 is not necessary.  For all anyone knows, the church may be just one scandal away from outright public rejection…but probably not.
