Churches Involved in Torture, Murder Thousands of African Children Denounced as Witches

by Katharine Houreld

Print: Los Angeles Times

excerpt:

The nine-year-old boy lay on a bloodstained hospital sheet crawling with ants, staring blindly at the wall.

His family pastor had accused him of being a witch, and his father then tried to force acid down his throat as an exorcism. It spilled as he struggled, burning away his face and eyes. The emaciated boy barely had strength left to whisper the name of the church that had denounced him — Mount Zion Lighthouse.

A month later, he died.

This widespread Christian evangelism is criminal and deserves international intervention.  Are there any Christians out there willing and able to stop this insanity?  Any with the moral and intellectual wherewithal to articulate why this practice is wrong and why the Bible should not be used as a a moral and civic compass?

You don’t want Christians to take this one on… they’ll just pray more, which is effectively like throwing a penny into a well and wishing for another penny.

To me, this is criminal, and should be fully investigated to the extent the law provides. New convert “priests and bishops” should be arrested as well as the missionaries who filled their heads with these ridiculous ideas.

Criminal indeed. I wonder what the Christian communities’ response will be. I’m sure they will obviously take no blame as usual.

Ah where is Karen Armstrong when you need her? I read this repulsive story in my local paper yesterday and of course it was in the “world” section, when it belongs in the religion section. You’ll notice some fool saying it’s horrible what they are doing “in the name of” christianity. As though in the name of Major League Baseball. Actually the bible is pretty clear on the treatment of witches. The injunction in Exodus is crystal clear, and accordingly these pastors are more properly religious and more principled than the people who are allowing these witches to wreak havoc in their families and communities. Is it time to recognize that faith isn’t a virtue yet?
