Bulgarian protesters demand compulsory religious classes

Posted: September 24, 2010.

Yet another case of the religious propaganda - assuming a god to be the only source of morals/ethics. So any social decay is the fault of the athiests.
I wonder if there are any studies on the apparent rise of crime/violence/drug use based on secular vs sectarian populations

I live in Romania, Bulgaria’s northern neighbor. It is a poor country (by European standards) with no prospects of improvement, a corrupt political class that keeps getting elected despite not doing anything to change things - all of this can be traced to one reason: ignorance.

Education in schools is extremely poor, over here it’s even worse than Bulgaria in that authorities keep religion in school on purpose - the Romanian Orthodox Church is a powerful ally to have when election time comes. The Constitution explicitly mandates the separation of church and state, only to be blatantly ignored by the political establishment. Our politicians want to keep people ignorant so that they can steal some more of their taxes without the masses rising up against them.

The best solution for such countries ruled by former-communists-turned-crony-capitalists is the immediate abolition of democracy (since the majority is too stupid to realize what outcome is best for it in the long term) and establishment of technocracy or some kind of regime where scientists, economists and engineers rule the country and civilize it by force.
