Noah´s Ark

“A recent Gallup poll revealed that 53% of Americans are creationists. This means that despite a full century of scientific insights attesting to the antiquity of life and the greater antiquity of the earth, more than half of our neighbours believe that the entire cosmos was created six thousand years after the Sumerians invented glue. Those with the power to elect our presidents and congressmen – and many who themselves get elected – believe that dinosaurs lived two by two upon Noah´s ark, that light from different galaxies was created en route to the earth, and that the first members of our species were fashioned out of dirt and divine breath, in a garden with a talking snake, by the hand of an invisible God.”

How can humans be so aware and so blind at the same time. So accepting of science, physics and engineering on so many levels and so dismissive of it on the fundamentals of the earth like evolution and climate change.

I do not get why are dinosaurs believed to be in the Noah’s ark based on the creationist’s beliefs? They oppose their extinction before the arrival of humankind?

Well, obviously dinosaurs didn’t make it to the boat. Sheesh!

Creationism is the fantasy of the the Christian Right. It is taught so that members of this movement may set themselves apart from other Christians and types of theists. Creationism is completely bunk, however it is not at all tied to overall Christian theology. Many millions of people read the Bible as allegorical. To be in the Christian Right you have to accept this story as literal because it makes you a member of the Christian Right.

That is the point.
