Thousands of children in the southern state will receive publicly-funded vouchers for the next school year to attend private schools where Scotland’s most famous mythological beast will be taught as a real living creature.
These private schools follow a fundamentalist curriculum including the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) programme to teach controversial religious beliefs aimed at disproving evolution and proving creationism.
One tenet has it that if it can be proved that dinosaurs walked the earth at the same time as man then Darwinism is fatally flawed.
Critics have damned the content of the course books, calling them “bizarre” and accusing them of promoting radical religious and political ideologies.
I much prefer the more elegant wording of Russell’s Law, but I think far fewer are familiar with it than are with Poe’s. In any case this is a good example—true, but still ... really?

Yup.
Thanks for those links Skep. I had never actually heard of those before but it makes lots of sense when you think about it. Creationists would be hilarious if what they are doing to children wasn’t so scary…

Hard to believe isn’t it, I was looking for the winking smiley.

Makes perfect sense to me. God, nessie, bigfoot, vampires, warewolves, santa claus, etc. all should be read about together as part of the same curriculum of stupid.

Welcome phillyfireman! I didn’t want you to think us rude. No one responded to you first post, so I guess I’m your welcoming committee. When I’m on PR, I usually spend most of my time on the Science or Political forums, but I wound up here tonight, and picked this thread.
I think we can probably use a fireman here every once in a while. Sometimes people can get a little hot while dealing with the, shall we say, “less rational” amongst us. I occasionally worry someone might actually burst into flames. So join us, and always keep your fire extinguisher handy - F4R
I went to a meeting in Chicago about 20 years ago, maybe more, where I met the person who made the fake nessie photo that you see in textbooks. It was a conference primarily for magicians, but people who had proven how gullible the public is were also invited. A president of the crop cuircle club in England flew in with a lovely slide show, and there was one (or was it two) comedians who made fun of creationists and it was enjoyed by all.
And for those who never saw it, here is the Penn and Teller bit about Creationism:
