Oooh, I like him. He must be a lot of FUN to play bass with.

Any good rock drummer should be capable of what he is colorfully describing. But they better be able to switch it off the instant they lift their butt off the drum throne. Or, they can have a long career of posing for craigslist ads.

Yes, my church’s praise team has an opening. This guy sounds like he would provide a lot of energy to the worship service.

Q: Why did the bass player break the van’s window?

A: Because the drummer was locked inside.

Sadly ... because if he dies in a bizarre gardening accident it clearly means he won’t spontaneously combust on stage.

It’s how the best drummers always go, so I’m told..

Reminds me of a great tune from the not so distant 1980’s….inside out..by Phil Collins.

He was also a drummer fwiw.

Here we go then….

I thought skilled drummers like John Bonham and Keith Moons’ image were what a real “Rock” drummer should be all about, even down to the sweat and grimacing, looking at footage of Bonham you could see him muttering away to himself, maybe even swearing. But for control and content I always liked Neil Peart.

Of course drummers I know personally, always recommend some obscure old guy from the 50s which is fair enough, but for “Rock”...for me the above mentioned are the boys.

....I am open to others suggestions though.

Carl Palmer.  Buddy Rich (not really from the rock age).

Steve Gadd, Jeff Porcaro and Vinnie Colaiuta (not necessarily in that order) for all-arounders. Gadd’s opening riff to Paul Simon’s “Fifty Ways…” may be the coolest little 2-bar phrase ever, Porcaro could make anything groove, Colaiuta did sh*t like this - http://www.vinniecolaiuta.com/articles/drummagazine03.aspx  (a Steve Vai story). Now if he’d just shut up abut being “born-again”.

Peart is sui generis. Brilliant.

I suppose Omar Hakim and Chad Wackerman would round out my top five - but I could go on…

Sorry folks, but when I listen to the Moons and Bonhams of the world I can’t get past the slop.

Or the li’l green globules (yeah, I know it’s rock ‘n’ roll - but still…)

I used to be songwriting partners with a (then) kid named Nick D’Virgilio back in my L.A. days. Effing amazing work with “Genesis” and “Spock’s Beard”. Best drummer I’ve ever been fortunate enough to have played with.

What did the drummer get on his IQ test?

Drool.

A self-proclaimed Drum God. I’ve been around musicians my whole life and heard many a bitch-drummer. None of them ever “sounded” like him. I think he conveyed his lack of versatility more than anything.

Well, after all, my God is the one who came up with the whole idea of pussies and penises, so there.
