Hello,
I tried to change my avatar.  I clicked on Remove Avatar, then selected a new jpeg and clicked upload.  Now my original avatar just looks squished.  Help?

It should be ok now, just refresh your page a few times, I change mine many times and you do get the squished look at first. It has changed though…

Why did you change your avatar?  Is there a new Hannah?

Still me.  Well, I thought my avatar needed to be updated.  When I tried to change it, I didn’t have much luck, so I’m still waiting for advice ‘cause it’s still the old one looking weird.  Any ideas?

I see a real little bird on a branch, as opposed to the old avatar which was a drawing of a blue bird pulling a worm. It looks fine to me. What are you seeing????

It’s a funny ol’ business, I’ve used two different laptops over the years, my regular laptop shows my current avatar, but my other one still shows an older choice….spooky aint it!

Good.  That wasn’t what I was seeing.  I tried changing it again, so maybe that did it…or maybe something spooky is happening, like with Martin’s.  (I wonder if it’s a cache thing…I am so un-tech-y).

If we had a contest to see who was the un-techiest I would win.  For instance, my desk calculator doesn’t go into billions so I tried to use the one on the computer.  However, it doesn’t have a ‘division’ symbol - a dash with a dot above and below it.  I Googled a discussion on this.  A dozen geeks were talking about it, talking about dummies who didn’t understand the new symbols.  Not one of them said what the new symbol was, so I still can’t divide on my computer calculator.  A month or two ago I downloaded a Mozilla update, or something like that.  After that I wasn’t able to post website addresses on the forum -you know, sources to support my posts, etc.  (What’s Mozilla?  A virus that wipes out dozens of one’s useful programs?)  Years ago I lost the ability to send people websites in my e-mails.  Another thing - prompts to download program updates lead to questions I don’t understand, or instructions to disable things I’m afraid to disable - alarming prompts to send error reports and so forth.  I feel like ‘Ishi, Last of his Tribe.’  Sorry, I can’t give you the Amazon address where you could read reviews about Ishi. shut eye

Their should be a slang word for a techie person who helps out the dependent untechie friends and relatives.  Eveyone needs one.  Like the Geek Squad, but no charge.  Maybe you make the person dinner.  Like a geekbro.

The urban dictionary lists
Geekspertise:
The smart skills of the young techies upon which the folks
of far behind generations must rely.

BTW, my college son is my designated geekbro.  He told me that my avatar was cached on my browser.  So he helped me empty my cache, and voila, my new avatar appeared when I logged on next.  The clue was when the other poster saw that my avatar had changed in his view.

This is one of the reasons I’m glad I had children.
