The men don’t have to restrain themselves, they are the kings and if a women shows any skin it means she wants to be forcefully subjugated. That’s the system keeps women slaves…...

IN that sense it’s a double-edged sword, if you dress comfortably and according to your own personal tastes, then you invite probable lewd reaction, if you throw on the hijab then you are basically supporting the system as it exists.

This topic also reminded me of seeing old clips of Amazon jungle dwellers whose female tribe members (and males also) run around completely naked, the men and the women have a certain sort of “wildness” in their eyes, but that wild look comes with living with a constant sense of ignorant fear that is entirely natural.  The muslim men hardly able to control their urges and gawking at women who show a trace of skin exhibit a look that is more verging on madness like that of caged wild animals, very disconcerting.

Sometimes “civilization” and urbanization can make its human victims crazy, depending on how much control is exerted by the precepts and taboos of the culture.

. . . we choose to do it [wear a hijab] after coming to a rational understanding of our faith.

A rational understanding of made up shit means choosing to rationalize.  The author makes a good point about her choice and it makes sense to her Western audience, but she dismisses her ability to choose when most of her Muslim sisters don’t have that choice.  I take freedom of choice.

And by advocating her “choice” she is helping to keep her Muslim sisters in slavery.

How sad and pathetic is it to announce and advocate the choice to conform as if she’s taken up some triumphant position?

I’m now choosing to wear pants when in public places.  While my society has been requiring me to do this for as long as I can remember, I find it personally expressive as well as liberating to not have people staring at my exposed genitals.  I want the men of the world to know that it’s okay to choose the safe route, pull on some trousers, and not waggle your testes in public spaces.  Don’t give in to the pressure to be different.  Instead, succumb to the pressure to be like everyone else.  It’s more unique in a conformity kind of way.

Does the author live in UK?  If so, it seems she is making a statement that she is different from the culture around her, and she is proud of her heritage.  I do not agree with her views, but I would not like to see the other extreme, like the ban on wearing Muslim headscarves in schools, as in France.  By the way, in France, the ban extends to all religious apparel, including turbans for Sikh young men.

It is possible to disagree with her views while upholding her right to have different views.  I hope she is fully appreciates the gift of having the choice.

I understand what you are saying but wonder if you would be as understanding with the same logic but different inputs. For example a homosexual declaring that to be true to the bible they are an abomination that society should not tolerate or a black person deciding that to be true to the bible they need to be enslaved etc.

I’ll attest that a lone-dressed man in the midst of a busy nudist camp can’t wait to rip his clothes off in order to feel at ease.

I see the analogy, but not exactly comparable.  Wearing a head scarf is not nearly as onerous as feeling loathsome or being enslaved for a lifetime.

Dare I mention male circumcision?  Is it right to tolerate that practice?

That’s the world you create when crones are praised for repressing women for the glory god aka ignorance and superstition.
