Project Reason is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation devoted to spreading scientific knowledge and secular values in society. The foundation draws on the talents of prominent and creative thinkers in a wide range of disciplines to encourage critical thinking and erode the influence of dogmatism, superstition, and bigotry in our world.
Don’t know how that came about. Miracle maybe? Now how could that have happened without divine intervention? Ok, that’s all the proof I need. I’m a believer!
I believe that you convert or change no-one unless they want to make a change for themselves.
I think this is a profound realization, safewing. Whatever value and meaning you get from being here will be yours alone. We’re only openly expressing and sharing ourselves. Most of us appreciate and value the experience, as hanna suggested, for different reasons. Personally, it’s alloted me the opportunity to make on-line friends from across the country and around the world and a different and unique way of communicating with and learning about others, and myself. As you’ve seen, we occassionaly get antagonistic characters with malicious intent and a deprived sense of reason, knowledge and insightfulness, theist and atheist alike. Even these can be unique learning experiences. In the end, you’re going to arrive at your own conclusions. Hopefully, you will be satisfied that you’ve explored the widest spectrum of input possible with an open mind for your choices (and that’s what I think it comes down to in the end). When you do, taking into consideration all the applicable knowledge available to you (which should be all knowledge, observation and experience/what we know and what we don’t know), I find it mind-boggling that the same conclusion is not reached by everyone, especially when you are aware of why it is not. I also didn’t pay attention to Sam Harris for years even after joining the forum, didn’t know who he was and I only found this site (his old one) by accident, I also had never been on a forum before and belong to no other, but now I think he is one of the greatest insightful minds of history. Just to qualify, I’ve been a life-long Atheist without the term but gone through the motions of family Catholicism (including reading the entire Bible) and explored various religions and philosophies, including meditation (gained considerable mastery or proficiency at it), from an academic (not formal) as well as experiential point of view. So, you’re on your own journey perhaps starting from another place that I’ve never been but several here have. Good luck.
Be a skeptic. I, too, am a skeptic. It was skepticism that sent me on a search for God, for skepticism has a major element of “seeking”, and is often defined as such. But, for the sake of all that is good, wait until you “find” before you makes claims of certitude.
Actually, this is a new version of BM’s revelation as far as I have read. It was only weeks if not days ago that he posted a revelation story that had a light emitting from a picture of jesus to BM’s friend, who then took a bible (written in “modern language”) over to BM’s house (who at the time was not “seeking” anything and apparently minding his own business) and gave it to BM saying something like, “I don’t know why, but I think I’m supposed to give this to you,” and then a few signs and wonders later, fastforward, and we get BM over here foaming at the mouth 9 times out of 10. So the search for god stuff appears to be entirely new. As far as I understood, BM was under the delusion that god had searched for him.
That’s my lunch tray slap-down for the day. Go Pats!

BM promotes whatever he thinks will work for the particular post he’s writing.

Hi, I registered in this forum this morning and read some topics. It seemed that most of the members of this forum is someone that speak native English, right? I hope I can learn something from this forum by communicating with other menbers. It has been nearly 2 years since I graduated from my university, SCAU, south China Agricultural Universtiy. haha. I can remember everytime I was asked which university I studied, then I answered:SCAU. “oh, you major in Farming?” Speechless, I said no. Acutally, I majored in Trade English. Athough misunderstood by many people that did not know much about my university, I love SCAU very much. It ranks the biggest university in Guangdong Province and the students and teachers are very nice.
Now I am working in Dongguan, also in Guangdong, as a international trade sales, selling wire harness, which can be used in many internal electronic.

Welcome Helena. Hope you understand what the the forum is about and stick around for some interesting conversation here, we speak several forms of English: American, British, Canadian, Australian, you name it, we got it (that’s slang).
It’s a pleasure to speak to one of our Chinese Sisters, I don’t think we have many, if any members from China.
So you are very welcome here, it’s good to learn about each others cultures I think.
