Project Reason is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation devoted to spreading scientific knowledge and secular values in society. The foundation draws on the talents of prominent and creative thinkers in a wide range of disciplines to encourage critical thinking and erode the influence of dogmatism, superstition, and bigotry in our world.
Arguments in favor of unfalsifiable propositions came full circle a thousand years ago. It’s boring to even spend time on them today.
Religious dogma can be opposed for its fundamental paradoxes and double standards. It is neither rational nor moral. Even based on its own contemporary cultural values. If god represents the good and the true he would have nothing to do with it.
There are further arguments, of course, but why bother?

I have to say the “why bother” sentiment does look attractive, especially when you feel your going through the motions once again with the same arguments.
The answer probably is, that while there are people spreading the stone age view of the universe, someone needs to be challenging that view.
Rob, look in the mirror to see what this “gift” looks like.
Wronganswerer, the concept of out-thinking God is laughable. Do the mirror thing, too.
Avocado, your relativism is what is brainwashing YOU. To claim that no one can know the truth is stupid. And then to claim that truth exists but every-one’s definition of it are equally valid doesn’t make any sense at all. You think in your mind that there is no way that a person can experience the living God in a concrete and tangible way. And your foundation for this claim is YOUR lack of this experience. I guess you have a yard full of broken-down cars, because if YOU do not know how to fix them, then how can anyone else. You’re an inclosed system of mere opinion, aren’t you?
Gila, YOU made yourself ignorant of God, because YOU ignore what it takes to find God, and YOU stubbornly read only those writers who support YOUR initial leanings. YOUR opinion of a rational argument is limited and biased. Read some of the millions of philosophical and theological works written over the centuries, and even today, pointing to the existence of God. My bet is you haven’t read even one. But yet you write with authority and the idea that you have knowledge and understanding of great things. You’re just a silly person, aren’t you?
Brick, 1500 years of Christian influence gave Western civilization two very important qualities: COMPASSION and INDIVIDUALITY. American IDEALISM owes a great debt to Christianity. Yet you see only “fundamental paradoxes and double standards” (derived, no doubt, from a glance at the Old Testament) that are “neither rational nor moral” (derived, no doubt, from overly-zealous views of science and personal freedom). And then you make the grandiose exclamation “why bother?” in reference to religious dogma. You are a collection of stupid ideas and self-deluded authority, aren’t you?
Which brings me back to Rob, the tough guy, who looks for justification for his lifestyle in scientific writings. You’re a real mess, aren’t you?
Mario, you’re such a bore. If we’ve read one of your posts we’ve read’em all. Same old self-congratulatory tripe. Just more bullshit from the pulpit. But continue with your autofelatio exercises if you like. You might get there one day and justify your own existence to yourself. Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn! And I feel confident in saying that few others here do either.
Maario: If God exists, then our thoughts and actions have meaning beyond a couple of peope reading our stupid sentences like Skep writes, or sitting in a dusty room writing lies like Dennis does. No. Our thoughts and actions help us BECOME who we are and who we will be for all eternity. And ONLY IF GOD DOES NOT SHOW HIMSELF FULLY will we think and act honestly, uniquely, and meritoriously.
If God was to show himself fully, we would all fall over each other to kiss his ass. The consequence of this would be everyone having a single purpose, and a purpose that is not a part of this world’s essence, which is merely contingent.
If God was to show himself fully, we would be invisible.
Use common sense here. If you were at a party and everyone was listening to something clever you had to say, and then in walked Justin Bieber with his pants down below his ass, you wouldn’t be able to finish your thought.
How much more would we lose the ability to BE SOMETHING if the GOD WHO IS EVERYTHING enters the room?
Your thinking on this matter shows clearly your very real incapacity for clear thought without subjective baggage and the dictates of an atheistic agenda.
I liked this, Mario. Doesn’t convince me that God exists, but it is an excellent explanation of God’s hiddenness, if he does exist. I have heard this before in different ways, ie. we lose our free will, etc., but your more earthly desciption was great. Do wish you’d stop insulting people, though. You seem to do it automatically. Isn’t it an unnecessary self-indulgence?

saralynn, my wife agrees with you completely about my aggressive attitude, so I guess I have to give a nod to you both in this regard. But I do hope you read objectively posts like Rob’s “fuck ‘em” post to see where I get a bit of my fervor to lash back. That’s it. Peace and good.

Saralynn, you’re missing something pretty obvious here. If gods were all powerful could they not both show themselves fully and not allow us to become invisible, just as they could allow us to ‘be’ in their presence? Are gods supposed to be omnipotent or not?
This is just a sort of not-so-clever play on words that Mario uses to beguile some people. It goes no way at all to explaining the hiddenness of gods. But Mario gets off over impressing you nonetheless.
And he continues to insult just about everyone here in the process. His posts are buckets of phlegm.

One does one’s best in an imperfect world, Answerer. Mostly I can’t be bothered with the obnoxious little toad.

Toads have a useful place in the ecology, not true of BM.

God or no god that is completely made up bullshit….......
Well, it’s not as if I haven’t ever agreed with you on other things, GAD. Mostly inimportant things to be sure, but it just goes to show that even almost complete opposites can converge at certain points. I won’t get into the convergence of our points here, though, GAD. Don’t want to frighten the sheep, do we?
