Here is a translation of the opening verse of the Tao Te Ching (from the writings of LaoTze approximately 600BC) as inspiration to American poet Witter Bynner.
Existence is beyond the power of words
To define:
Terms may be used
But none of them absolute.
In the beginning of heaven and earth there were no words,
Words came out of the womb of matter;
And whether a man dispassionately
Sees to the core of life
Or passionately
Sees the surface,
The core and the surface
Are essentially the same,
Words making them seem different
Only to express appearance.
If name be needed, wonder names them both:
From wonder into wonder
Existence opens.
Oh yes . . . how strange of me, but I never said that ‘word’ was the word. Now TAO has three letters, have you tried that one? Or were you looking for five letters M-A-R-I-O?
Contemplating the way of all life may be time wasted in this instance Can Zen.
Full points for the effort your making though.
Well Answerer, “there’s a word for it” and that’s the whole point, there is a word!
Of course I know that Mario wants that word to be his version of god, and naturally that’s the best he can do given his limitations affected by the dopamine, but in his blindness he cannot see that the word itself takes presidence over it’s content. What I’m saying is “it’s the fact that he can speak/think in words that makes the crucial difference in the larger scheme of things.” Whatever Mario actually says is, obviously, totally irrelevant but the fact that HE SPEAKS says it all, for me.
I just hoped you wouldn’t encourage him. Agreeing with what he’s written seems to be re-enforcing and he certainly doesn’t understand what you mean regarding language.
The four letter word he is referring to is S-O-U-L and not in any figurative way, which according to Mario is divinely injected at the precise moment the sperm and egg cells meet, not a Planck Time instant before, or else the soul will be contained within the egg or sperm cells, and not a Planck Time instant later for which there would be a “Godless period” for which Theists would have to concede the validity of a Godless period.
As far as human development and communication, the rest of his analysis regarding the newborn baby or aberration of healthy development is in comparison to a fully matured or fully normal functioning adult, thereby ignoring the factors and processes of human development altogether.
Perhaps you were agreeing with his expression in language and that it can only be expressed in such manner, but there isn’t anything there to agree with, ie, you agree that IT was written and communicated, but not what was written ie, the content, at least from my assessment.

Thanks for straightening me out on that 4-letter thing Answerer. I was thinking that the word ‘word’ has only four letters is what Mario meant so I presumed he was going for three or five?? But now I see that he saw me write ‘power’ and he meant that the word was ‘soul’ and had four letters.

can zen, the word only has four letters.
And just before that he had written . . .
And, this word is at the heart of whether or not we are individuals who will continue on after our last breath.
Of course I wasn’t the least interested in his word for what filled in the content of his own beliefs, i.e., soul. Funny thing is I am reading Mario and I reinterpret what he says into my own understanding of reality, so when he uses words like ‘god’ I think of ‘the power of language’ and when he uses words like ‘soul’ I think of ‘how each person uses that power’ - so in a sense what is left of me after I die is all those things that the power of language (god) enabled me to contribute to the world while I was alive . . . that remains forever. Or you might see it in the sense of what god (my version) has allowed me to contribute to the world. SO while I read Mario, I transpose everything he writes into something that makes sense for me, but I usually understand what he is “literally” getting at because I can also see the world from his perspective if I try really hard to think of myself inhabiting his cognitive domain . . . obviously I can fuck that up at times as in the incident above.
Martin, put a comma before directly addressing someone. Write “you’re” when you should. And, other such things. In that way, the superior intelligence and the grasp on rhetorical argument you claim to possess aren’t clouded by your inability to write well…i.e., your lack of education.

can zen, you just described perfectly how you, one atheist, think and search for truth within a closed system of opinion and prejudice.
Well Mario, between the two of us even you have to admit (as you do above) that at least one of us is searching for truth.
I know perfectly well that everything I have written does makes sense to you because you are at least intelligent enough to understand what those words mean. Of course you reject what I mean because it would destroy your systematized delusion to accept it. But I can see in your other contributions on this forum that you have even borrowed some of my ideas in order to make a point when it services your god-scheme. I am hardly interested in what you have to say directly to me because most of that is just words pouring out in your own self defense.
BTW, I would really love to know what you have taught your children about how god is living within you? Have they accepted any of it or are they atheists? Or do you even know what they believe?

Wronganswerer, when are you ever away from this website?
zen, he’s gloating on the out you gave him—purely diversionary. Everything he thinks is through the lens of God, literally (to him). For Christ sake, he fought with the Devil—literally (as communicated). You’re only talking to yourself—and us, of course, as am I. TheTwistedSister is a lost cause. It’s too bad we allow his kind of contamination of this site.

I know, Answerer I think I’ll really have to put him on ignore because the temptation to respond with reason to his madness seems to get me every time. Even on this thread I had intended to ‘conclude’ the conversation a page back. I’ll try the ignore button. Thanx!

Don’t thank me, zen. I’m not trying to influence you or cramp your style. Do your thing, man. I’m the same way. I’m going to ignore him too, hopefully. I just don’t want to see him pull the wool over anyone’s eyes. If you know what he’s saying and where he’s coming from, have at it. But good fucking luck. I’ll watch with interest, maybe. All I’ve been wanting to do is keep him exposed for the small-minded hypocrite he truly is.
