Interesting to see how quickly people jumped in, spouting persecution of a list of comments that were promoting freedom, choice and tolerance.

The oxymoron lies in that they have to be taught the word respect. What they’re really asking is to “please respect my disrespectfulness.”

Whenever I have risked a peak on “religious” forums, I have found that they don’t give each other the lickings of a dog either, so respect seems non-existent, well just take one glimpse at BM.

We Atheists know where we stand ... at the bottom of the evil heap. Religious polls show it. They must be asking respect from each other.

Just a general comment/quote I thought fit in quite well here:

“I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”
- Historian Stephen Henry Roberts

“Instead of mythology being a disease of language, it may be truly said that our theology is a disease of mythology”

I think there is still an affiliation between opposing religions who otherwise might dismiss each others beliefs or gods, especially when faced with Atheism, in fact some of them are not so far apart, the judeo-Christian religions obviously have the same source, others often still argue that they have common ground and that the essence of their faiths are similar, although the details differ they feel they are calling on the same Deity. Reflected in Joint Synods between differing faiths that occur with the view of finding commonality. .

Now when it comes to Odin, or the cult of Isis or many other dead or forgotten religions, I reckon they would be left with less room to wriggle. But I’m sure they would have a go…

They have never really wanted respect at all. What they want is first acceptance and then conversion.

I’m reminded of these quotes that come to mind:

“No, I don’t know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God.”
- George H.W. Bush, when he was candidate for president

“Christians have an obligation, a mandate, a commission, a holy responsibility to reclaim the land - for Jesus Christ - to have dominion in civil structures, just as in every other aspect life & godliness. It is dominion we’re after not just a voice. It is dominion we’re after not just influence. It is dominion we’re after not just equal time. It is dominion we’re after. World conquest. That’s what Christ has commissioned us to do.”
- George Grant, “changing of the guard” pg 50-51

“Our goal, as christians, is to dominate society”
- Pat Robertson

“Christianity & Democracy are inevitably enemies”
- R.J. Rushdoony “Independent Republic” pg 122, 1964

“The church should be a disciplined charging army christians, like slaves & solders ask no questions. We are fighting a holy war”
- Jerry Falwell

“Our job is to reclaim America for Christ, whatever the cost. As the vice regents of God, we are to exercise godly dominion and influence over our neighborhoods, our schools, our government, our literature and arts, our sports arenas, our entertainment media, our news media, our scientific endeavors—in short, over every aspect and institution of human society.”
- D. James Kennedy

“Secular schools can never be tolerated because such a school has no religious instruction and a general moral instruction without a religious foundation is built on air; consequently, all character training and religion must be derived from faith ... We need believing people.”

- Adolf Hitler, April 26, 1933, from a speech made during negotiations leading to the Nazi-Vatican Concordat of 1933.

I’m also reminded of these quotes:

“Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.”
- Omar M. Ahmad, founder of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) July 4th, 1998

“Ultimately, we (Muslims) can never be full citizens of this country…because there is no way we can be fully committed to the institutions and ideologies of this country”
- Ihsan Bagby, CAIR

“The 9/11 hijackers should be honored as martyrs.”
- Warith Deen Umar, Former Muslim Chaplain, New York Prisons

“In time, this so-called democracy will crumble, and there will be nothing. And the only thing left will be Islam.”
- Siraj Wahhaj, Brooklyn, New York Imam

“Muslims cannot accept the legitimacy of the existing American order, since it is against the orders and ordainments of Allah.”
- Imam Zaid Shakir, Former Muslim Chaplain at Yale University

“We must not forget that Allah’s rules have to be established in all lands…”
- Imam Muzammil H. Siddiqi, Islamic Society of North America

“This religion [Islam] will destroy all other religions through the Islamic Jihad fighters”
- Jordanian/Palestinian School Book 1998

“Mosques are our barracks, domes our helmets, minarets our bayonets, believers our soldiers.”
- Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan

“Islam not a religion of violence, but if you burn Qur’ans or draw Muhammad, we’ll kill you”
- Gambian President

“No we don’t want to democratize Islam, we want to Islamize democracy” “We love you, America – and we want your children for Islam”
- Islam on Capitol Hill.com

“I am a traitor to America because my religion requires me to be. We pledge to wage jihad for the rest of our lives until either we implant Islam all over the world or meet our Lord as bearers of Islam.”
- Samir Khan

“I want to see the U.S become an Islamic nation.”
-Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR Spokesperson

“I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future ... But I’m not going to do anything violent to promote that. I’m going to do it through education.”
- Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR Spokesperson

“Once we gain power in Egypt, “we will launch a campaign of Islamic conquest, throughout the world”
- Sheikh ‘Adel Shehato, Senior official of Egyptian Islamic Jihad

“Greater integration between Islam and the West depends on incorporation of Sharia law into the legal systems of Europe and the U.S.”
- Ground Zero Mosque Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf

Dhimwit: “A non-Muslim member of a free society that abets the stated cause of Islamic domination with remarkable gullibility. A dhimwit is always quick to extend sympathy to the very enemy that would take away his or her own freedom (or life) if given the opportunity.”

Well, the only one of these quotes that specifically advocates against violence and it is the one that specifically cracked me up!  (What doesn’t make you laugh will kill you!)

The person who cannot respect other religions is in fact not following his own religion properly, because no religion teaches to abuse other religions.
