Seems to be two threads going on the same topic. But no matter, he was worth two threads. I’m still enjoying the latest collection of his works. Glad to see he never caved in. Not that I ever thought he would. Good for him!
AN: Again I feel an emptiness like I did when George Carlin died. One of the strongest voices of and for reason is now gone. Our world is worse for it.
Yeah. It’s strange when a celebrity dies because you don’t really know them, but you feel like you did. I had many reservations about Hitchens, but I always looked forward to seeing him on TV because he was bright, articulate, and could make witherering comments better than anyone else I know. I’m going to miss him.
I thought he was a brilliant writer, wonderful historian and an intellectual giant. One has to be to be a serious polemic or nobody will listen to you.
Heard about it on the radio driving into work this morning…I was instantly saddened by the news. I only become aware of his work after God is Not Great came out, but quickly became a fan.
My most fond memories of Hitch were watching video of his debate against Al Sharpton. He was so delightfully well-mannered and yet ruthless at the same time. And Sharpton seemed to have had no choice but to backpedal to deism from the start.
