Project Reason is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation devoted to spreading scientific knowledge and secular values in society. The foundation draws on the talents of prominent and creative thinkers in a wide range of disciplines to encourage critical thinking and erode the influence of dogmatism, superstition, and bigotry in our world.
A member who joins Project Reason has to accept this clause. I can understand that Project Reason may need to remove an account, expressions, views of a member for a reason. I am interested to know can that be ANY reason? Say, Sam Harris does not like my view?
I am also interested to know if ‘reason’ is the core of Project Reason, will that be clearly spelt out when such an action (removal of an account) becomes necessary?
The tolerance level here is pretty high. Accounts are removed usually because of spam or being an outright asshole for asshole’s sake, but you won’t be kicked off for stating an opinion.
I think it’s a common “cover your ass”-clause. By saying ANY reason, they don’t have to endure listing a hundred different reasons to cover their bases, miss one anyway, and then have someone exclaim “Hey! You didn’t say ANYTHING about cat porn!”
@Skipshot: I am least bothered about a kick. My interest is about the reasonableness of the kick I will hope my scale of tolerance matches yours. Thanks.
@CalmWind: I have handled corporate contracts for 25 years to know how ‘ANY’ clauses are used. It may be a good idea to find a better substitute. Just suggesting.
I just read your bio, Pabritra, and considering you’re in India I hope it to be a breath of fresh air to read your opinions on perspectives. We’re mostly atheists here with a couple Christians. Half of the regulars are socialists and most of the others are capitalists. The humor is messed up and nothing is sacred. If you’re a theist you’ll need your steel plated jock strap.
@ Skipshot: The small picture attached to your name looks so similar to color coded digital river bathymetry charts I work with I do not follow any religion but carry names with obvious Hindu linage from my devout, high caste, Hindu Brahmin parents, who are sorry for my non-religious ways of life . I am humanist mostly and detest consumerist economic model of Capitalism. I have more questions than answers and can tolerate friendly banters and jibes. Thanks for encouragement.
Where did you find this ridiculous map? It doesn’t even list a fraction of the places where I have imbibed. And what the hell is Smithville shown there for, with those other big cities? It’s nowhere’s-ville, and I’ve NEVER been drunk there. Go do some more research.

I don’t think we are going to be BFF, but welcome anyway.

Yeah, it’s difficult to understand why people “detest” the very thing that has brought economic prosperity to so many. China is basically adopting it, and India, too, and it’s pulling them out of the sewer of Hindu Brahmin oppression that has kept hundreds of millions in hopeless poverty for centuries. Capitalism is not perfect, and needs to be tempered with appropriate regulation and safe-guarding of human rights. But it kicks ass when it comes to inspiring innovation and advancement. Or would you rather live in North Korea?

Not difficult if explained and understood. China has practically ‘copied’ western market economy and producing on near slave labor, India went out of Hindu Brahmin oppression much before adopting market economy. But there is reason why I detest consumerist model of Capitalism. Let me know if you care to know. I shall take a class after I come back from work :D

Not true. While wages are low, it’s better than the peasants ever had under Mao.

Not true. Millions are still suffering as untouchables and tribal groups because of what your ancestors did to them (that wasn’t your fault, I know). The Hindu caste system is one of the most despicable religious discriminations that has ever been devised. I’ve been there several times and have seen the poverty. The liberation that capitalism brings is one the main ways that the Hindu slaves are climbing out of the shit-hole that the priestly class threw them into.

Sure, I would like to know so I can tell you why you are wrong.
