So by your own admission banning profane speech won’t make discussions more informative or the content more civilized but it may increase the number of people who come here and stay if we don’t call them fuckwits or do so in a nice way. So banning profane speech would just inundate us with a lot of pussy ass fuckwits who are only here because they think other people are interested in their pussy ass fuckwits views because no one told them to go fuck themselves.

Not sure why you think that sounds so great…...

GAD it really depends upon what the point of the forum is.  In this thread I’m trying to get a feel for what the forum is all about… but I truly feel that limiting profane language will attract more intellectual people who might be on the cusp of realizing that there is no such thing as supernatural beings.

So intellectual people who believe in supernatural beings but question the complete lack of evidence or even contrary evidence might be convinced it is bullshit as long as they don’t hear the word bullshit otherwise they will go screaming right back to sky daddy?

As you can see skepticX feels otherwise.  i fear i may have pissed him off.  Oh well it won’t be the last time.

I don’t think he gets pissed, at least that he expresses, that wouldn’t play to his intellectual schtick.

I like the banter here, from the picture section, I noted that alot of people are in my age bracket and for the most part we all think a like.

Think about that for a while smile

I know that I could get alot more people (who would be active posters)to join if we limited the evil words. Large volume posters like yourself and Dennis Campbell need to set an example not only with vocabulary but by helping to save people who are being creamed by the aggressive types..

Dennis is a moderate and a peace keeper, he won’t like being put in the bucket with me. It’s OK to say it, I’m the bad one.

I hate to sound like a saint (cause I’m not) but stronger people should help weaker people… you know like in a real humanist society.  Whether we like it or not To use your phrase most people are “pussy ass fuckwits”. cheese

I’ve been called and labeled every nasty word in the book (expect homophobe) so I tend to stay out of such conflicts because who am I to say and more importantly no one wants to associate themselves with me to closely.

BTW I don’t think I’ve ever attacked you as a person only your views, have I? In fact (at least in my view) it would be the exception for me to fire the first shot in a personal conflict. Most people get pissed at my views and how I express them and pull out their moral cannons and start blasting and I respond in kind. But even there I’m made a great effort in the past year to not escalate such conflicts, at least with nukes anyways.

GAD,

I’ve always enjoyed your posts.  I’m not sure we disagree that much.  If the use of this site is solely as a social club, it’s irrelevant what is said as long as the social group that the words are intended for is unoffended.  They way we are now makes us look like lunatics to the outside world.
You are one of the highest volume posters at the PR (if not the highest).  You touch almost every thread.  If anybody could set an example, it would be you.

But it really depends on what you think the Purpose of the PR forum is.

I would be interested in your opinion concerning this matter.

I see and use this forum as a social club. That’s what forums are, people talking to other people.

This is helpful.  If that’s all PR is in your mind (probably other people’s mind also), things are unlikely to change.  One might wonder what the owners of this site think of the purpose for PR.  It is clearly set up as a social site, but I always assumed it was here to help promote some of the basic tenets of humanism.

Nevertheless, behaving well in public nerve hurts.

The dangers of using a spell checker, right? By the way, that’s the best typo I’ve seen in quite a while, and I’m a big fan of a good typo.

The forum is only one part of PR. If PR started for example a petition drive to change/challenge some law I could support that as I do with several other secular orgs where I am not on their forums if they even have one. The/a forum isn’t required or a hindrance to such projects, the simple fact is that PR hasn’t started any such projects.

excuse me if I don’t review this… I don’t want to lose another post.

We’re adrift in cyberspace, making stuff up as we go along.
Welcome to the asylum.

I like it. I always thought that was the whole point. Jeff has an to urge to evangelize, proselytize and tell us how it really is, not at all unlike every jesusfreak that ever darkened my door.
He mistook us for a religion. How funny is that?

But,
Is it wrong for him to want guidence ?(though he hasn’t really asked for that kind of help outright)
To want take steps to do something that will help people?
That’s why I came to this
I thought there was something I could do to help…anybody
One person would be enough.
We make no difference at all?
I ...
Dammit, I wanted to help
Way more than I wanted to just talk

No, no one else is having trouble except you. The Forum is punishing you for being such an idealist. Don’t be worried about the direction of things - you are on a tsunami and the best you will be able to do is surf awhile until you crash on the shore with the rest of us. You are not going to change the direction of the tsunami.

Gee, Sharp Tilt….we all feel the same way. Of course you make a difference.  At least to me.
Feeling and needing to “help people”, or even more simply to help, is what it’s all about.
Think your own thoughts, if you can do that, you can help, everybody.

Thanks for posting. We hope to hear more from you.

Right
I mean, I wans t expecting the black panthers or anything,
I had assumed there was a more active role played by mr.harris and company.
Nonetheless I’m here to try and understand what I don’t know. And I need people to express whatever they feel in whatever manner they need to express it for me to learn anything.
This is the only way I’ve ever made progress with anything.
Also, though I know my profile states it,I’m in minority here, being on the cusp of youth.
So I’m sure I come off a little more ideal than is healthy.
