As we sometimes say in the local vernacular, ‘fuckin’ oath mate!’

It’s not meant to sound intellectual. It’s just expressively reinforcing the sentiment of agreement in an informal and chummy way.

Exactly - there’s nothing rude about it. People who get all het up over that sort of thing are just priggs and prudes who need get up off their pews and get out more. Fair dinkum!

BTW, how is it today down in Bleak City, Cunj? What did Patrick White call it? That “city of sodden rectitude”?

Actually, Iove Melbourne. I was born there.

Ok, references to your “Fair dinkum” are definitely over the top. Here in the States we would never refer to it as “dinkum” and it’s certainly not fair!

Yeah, Uec, I guess “fair dinkum” is a bit over the top. I’ll restrict myself to the other ‘f’ word in future.
Thanks, mate.

Considering how fond of the “C” word Aussies are, I’m perplexed why it’s not used here.

Mateship’s great, Euc. Mates are like a comfortable pair of male shoes - they just go around together all the time. Doesn’t mean they bonk. In fact, if that happened, they’d no longer be mates. I never shag me mates. I don’t think my mates wouold want to shag me either.

So, let’s just be mates, Euc. And if one day you get wandering hands, be warned, our mateship will be over.

Cheers, mate.
