I was also wondering if a ‘diction’ is anything close to ‘gumption’?

Trying to figure out if we are caught up in a contradiction here, or just a forrestgumption.

Nonetheless, this is a very important and interesting thread actually.

Naw. Diction is related to fiction. Once you establish a character, don’t allow him or her too-labile a diction, unless his or her role is in espionage or stage-acting, or possibly stage-comic mimicry. Diction nominally gears your discourse to your audience.

If I’ve missed anything, I hope someone will correct me. Always grateful to be corrected on matters of fact.
