Austin is a great city.  Mostly because of the UT and the fact so many Yankees live there from enlightened places liker Wisconsin.  Lived there 1964 to 1966.

Granted, Austin is a wonderful city, but,  “the live music capital of the world” ?

How about Nashville?  Vienna?  New Orleans?  Hoboken?

Well, Texans call it music anyway.  Not sure if country-western qualifies as music, but, when in Texas…..

Well, Texans often confuse “Texas” with “The World”.

I just added New Orleans to the list.

Prejudiced as I am, I vote for NYC as being the live music capital of the world.  Why?  Diversity.  You never know what kind of musician you are going to bump into in the subway/train stations or streets playing for the patrons.  Ranges from classical to rap to Caribbean to folk.  Once I saw a guy playing a lawnmower.

That must be a difficult act; how does one act like a lawnmower?

Silly man!  He didn’t act like a lawnmower.  He played the lawnmower.  It’s not like I live in California.

Suppose he did a lot of swinging around. must’ve made him dizzy

It’s a really cool “experiment” even if the writer is pretty self-congratulatingly elitist about it.

According to who?  Austin?

According to the US Census, which shows that people are leaving NY to come to TX.  Austin has 750,000 and NYC has 8,000,000.  Austin has more live music per capita, guaranteed. It rocks. Just ask MPBrockman. He’s part of the scene.

NYC is good, but it’s sooooo big, you would expect more than it has.

Yes, it was a cool experiment.  I am quite sure I would have walked by oblivious to the music because I don’t respond to any music that doesn’t thump.  However, my husband would have definitely stopped.  He loves classical music and has a good ear.  At least that’s what he tells me. When we go to a concert, he quivers in response to the music, while I’m scrunching around in my seat, wishing I had popcorn or a good book to read.
