I loved your humorous one, saw it on YouTube and laughed out loud. Good work.

The production quality of the one you link to is very nice, and a great concept. It’s probably one of the best pure film submissions I’ve seen, although it doesn’t seem to support Critical Thinking as much as imagining a world without religion. I’m not sure which concept reason-project is more focused on, but it seems the absence of religion may be more of a hot-button than the critical thinking side. I personally don’t think John Lennon was much of a critical thinker, so the ending quote was a downer for me. I was also a little confused by the films suggestion that we should be open to same-sex marriage, but not to polygamy. Seemed a little PC in that respect, but I haven’t seen another I’d vote over it yet.

I have a question regarding the Rules and Regulations:

It clearly states that tobacco should not be promoted in the video and then continues to read, in parenthesis, should not even be in the film.
Originally, I failed to read the parenthesis. My main character smokes cigarettes throughout as a means to deepen the viewers understanding.

Now having completed post production on my film, and hoping to submit it before the deadline… what are my options? Can I blur out the cigarette? I am at a loss here and all my hard work will be put to rest because my character smokes (doesn’t promote smoking).

Please let me know as soon as possible.

Doesn’t sound like promotion. Do you show the brand? Maybe blur that out.

It’s probably just to discourage. If they were really serious, there would not have been parenthesis.

I don’t show the brand at all. Im going to post it, i just hate that those parenthesis state even the presence of tobacco will put me out of the contest. Unless i’m understanding it differently than intended.

Also, I have a Franz Kafka book that you can see in the foreground of a shot, still wondering if i should blur that out too.

Through the mouths of children, it suggests that Critical Thinking is the #1 Survival Skill for the Human Race.

After worrying about the cigarette, i figured, this is the way I intended the character to be so i shouldn’t change it. The short film has been submitted so i hope the judges enjoy it and realize there is absolutely no promotion of smoking prevalent.

Well, now that the winners have been notified and voting for the finalists is about to begin tomorrow night, what say all of us LOSERS (whose submissions were NOT chosen) post our videos HERE?

We can wallow in self-pity TOGETHER!!!

Seriously though - being that we didn’t make it into the finals, chances are slim that our videos will ever get the exposure we hoped for. They’ll likely be doomed to obscurity…adrift, someplace lonely in the deep, dark, vastness of cyberspace…perhaps viewed accidentally a handful of times (if we’re so lucky) when happened upon by mistake via misspelled youtube searches.
