“But, this “This I Believe” thing seems to demand something more personal, some leap of faith that helps one see life’s big picture, some rules to live by. So, I’m saying, “This I believe: I believe there is no God.”

Sounds like you have faith like the Christians have faith only your faith is in your intellect.

Your god is your intellect. The intellect is always a moving agenda or target. It has its home in egotistical wants, desires, and in not wanting.

As mark twain stated: god made man in his image then man returned the favor.

The god you write about in your article is a god made in man’s image. Very low level thinking on your part.

Very low level thinking on the part of most religious people then.

Can i ask a question? What would you consider to be high level thinking?

Researcher, (how’s that for a single word oxymoron) what exactly is ‘Faith in the Intellect’?  What alternative do you suggest, and how would the be considered and weighed without the intellect? And, in writing your post, what are you appealing to?

Great opinion piece. I’ve gotten turned on to Penn and Teller more with their show Bullshit. It’s cool to see something earlier. This piece really sums up well some of the key negative attitudes of religious people.

Yeah no shit “researcher”—what is “faith in the intellect”? What does that mean? For that matter, what the fuck do several other of your utterances mean? Such as:  “your god is your intellect” or “The intellect is always a moving agenda or target. It has its home in egotistical wants, desires, and in not wanting.”

You are merely turning phrases—you have no actual point to make. Am I wrong?

So Penn doesn’t believe in a god made in mans image. I almost get the feeling you think you have knowledge of the existence of another kind of god—care to explain? I’m ready for some high level thinking.

And just so you know, Mark Twain was an atheist (and an antitheist).

Re. Researcher - I’m always puzzled when I see comments wherein a believer (I think it’s safe to assume Researcher is a person of faith) states that logic, skepticism, reason, science, etc. are just another form of faith or god worshiping.  Are these remarks meant to denigrate the believer or the non-believer?
