Convert or Die - Catholic League Incensed Over Educational Cartoon

Video: WB Kids! Warner Brothers Animation

By chance I happened to catch this episode the first time it aired in 1998, and was immediately hooked on the series. I waited in vain long afterward with a fresh tape in the VCR and clicker in hand while every other episode was repeated several times. I even called Warner Bros. trying to obtain a copy, but was told nothing was available & there were no plans for home video release.
After years of searching on the web, I not only found someone with a copy - I found the culprit! Not surprisingly, certain religious types have both selective memory with regard to history and no sense of humor regarding their faith and its institutions. http://www.catholicleague.org/release.php?id=139 You’ll notice there are no objections to any claims of fact presented (however cheekily) in the piece, only a persistent whining to the network & the FCC about “Catholic-baiting” - whatever that’s supposed to mean: http://www.catholicleague.org/catalyst.php?year=1998&month=December&read=689 Apparently it means that if you air the church’s dirty laundry without presenting it in a perspective of disgust and horror normally befitting humanity, you’re bound to provoke a ludicrous response from a Cat-lick! ...And you’ll be censored for it, naturally. After all, first impressions are lasting; and how will kids ever become good cu$tomers if this is their introduction to the faith? Wake up kids (of all ages) ! Discard your silly fairy tales & superstitions and embrace the almighty First Amendment, which is essential to the pursuit of real truth and understanding! YES now!

I need to reconsider my decision to not allow my children access to TV, this one is brilliant. Thanks for the link.

This is pretty good! You know, I am a Napoleonic historian and a big fan of Napoleon, and I’m not censoring this show because it shows him in a negative light, and that’s on a frequent basis on this show, yet the Catholic church get’s a small dose of hitting on and goes censor crazy! It’s the only response they know, even to what is clearly meant as harmless humor! If I can take it and still enjoy it, I’m sure they’re neither giving and honest effort nor posessing a basic sense of humor.

It’s funny alright, until you look it up and discover that’s essentially what went on during the inquisition.
