Barack Obama on Contemporary religious Demography

by BARACK OBAMA
Posted: April 26, 2010.

Video: YouTube

Barack Obama discusses the inherent variance of religious belief and the presence of non-belief in America today. He also covers the role religious thought should/does play in politics, summing up his assessment:” Democracy demands that the religiously motivated translate their concerns into universal rather than religion specific values…it requires that their proposals be subject to argument and amenable to reason.”
Noting the conditions of a pluralistic society, he discusses the concessions (as those who believe in the inerrancy of the Bible would have to do in debating laws that run opposed to the tenants of the scripture)those of differing faiths and those of non-faith must agree to make in order to uphold the proper processing of a democratic society.
